Fayum is not located in the estern edge of the Sahara Desert. However, Fayum was covered by lush mangrove and swamp forest about 34 million years ago, and it boasted one of the most diversive fauna forever. The giants were Arsinotherium, which were looked like rhinos (and this drawing use the photo of rhinos as reference) but in fact related with elephant. Fayum was the most important site of early higher primate, which include the ancestor of ours and may be all of the higher primate today.

I love arsinotherium. Funny thing that they looked like a rhino but were related to elephants--AND they lived the life of a hippo! =)

one small critique, arsinoitherium didnt have the physique of a rhino, like you portray here, they were higher slung and more elephantine in shape.
